Ikat Dress using V1314

Do you follow MimiG? You should. She inspires me to sew more for myself and sew things that are wearable. She recently posted about this dress pattern and I couldn't wait to try one for myself. Then on a trip to Joann's I saw this fabric and knew I wanted to use it for this pattern/dress. I really think Joann is hit or miss when it comes to apparel fabric but sometimes they have something really great.

I think the fabric worked really well with this pattern.

Pattern Description: V1314 Pullover, close-fitting, lined dress has draped sides and narrow hem.

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size or two too big... maybe this is common with this patterns... so I just kept taking in the side seams until it fit the way I wanted.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I still kind of do my own thing but it's nice to refer back to the instructions if needed.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the flattering fit of the pattern and that it came together quickly and easily.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Shortened the sleeves.

Would you sew it again? Yes. I think I'll make another in black with long sleeves for the winter. I think this one could go into fall but the winters are so cold here I'll need the full length sleeve.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes

  1. Hot mama!!! I wish you were in CA so you could teach me how to sew as well as you do! I'm still in the "I'm afraid to take my machine out of the box" stage.

    1. I'll be in CA in October... and you shouldn't be afraid... it's just operating a machine and look how good you are with your camera! Maybe we can get together and sew you up something.

  2. Really Love this dress! I came here from Burdastyle.. have you used an invisible zipper?? If not how easy is it to get into and out of the dress?

    1. It's a jersey knit fabric so it pulls over like a tshirt and is almost as comfortable.
